What Can Genius Do?

1.

DETAILED TESTING: Genius will quickly identify which math facts students can answer either correctly - not correctly - or too slowly.  This can be done in six different test categories including: Addition Facts Sums 0-9, Addition Facts Sums 10-18, Subtraction Facts Top Number 0-9, Subtraction Facts Top Number 10-18, Multiplication Facts 0-9 and Multiplication Facts 0-12.

2.

IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK: Upon completion of a test (about 3-5 minutes), you'll be shown a professional detailed summary of test results.  You can PRINT this immediately or view at a later time in your GENIUS database account.

3.

POWERFUL PRACTICE: After test completion you can also choose to PRINT what we believe are the most effective math fact practice worksheets ever designed.  GENIUS takes the math facts that were answered incorrectly or too slowly and inserts these into a series of custom practice  worksheets.  We've designed 3 different practice worksheets that progress through a sequence of  special memorization techniques that really get the job done when it comes to transferring information from the short to long-term memory!

4.

RECORD KEEPING IS A BREEZE: On top of all of all this, you'll have access to a full-featured database account to keep track of all your students' test scores and progress.  Whether you have one or one-hundred students, just login to your GENIUS database account and you can view student test results, percentage passed for each math fact group - PRINT a professional math fact test summary or PRINT out the Genius Practice Worksheets.  In early 2012 we will be introducing online practice activities as well!

THE POWER BEHIND GENIUS

IS COMPLETE MATH FACT MEMORIZATION NECESSARY?
The premise is simple... in order to successfully learn long division, fractions, decimals or any advanced math concept - your student(s) absolutely must have all 100 multiplication facts completely memorized.  By "completely", we do not mean being able to answer a multiplication fact in 5 or 10 seconds.  Students MUST be able to answer each multiplication fact orally in less than two seconds and really should be able to do it in less than one second.  Failure to achieve total memorization of the multiplication facts not only guarantees lower test scores and longer times to finish class work and homework, but also, failure to master these facts means it will be far more difficult to learn practically every new math skill for years to come.  Along with the multiplication facts, GENIUS also offers testing and practice for addition and subtract math facts as well!

OLD SCHOOL TESTING VS. GENIUS
Teachers typically use paper and pencil to test students on a large number of math facts simultaneously to determine if students "know" the math facts.  While this procedure tells us whether a student answers a math fact right or wrong, it does not tell us if a student has only partial mastery of a math fact (as would be the case if the math fact was right, but took 10-20 seconds to answer by counting on fingers etc).  GENIUS, however, records the time it takes to answer each individual math fact and displays these partially mastered facts in the Test Report Summary as well as uses the facts in our practice worksheets.

TESTING PROCEDURE
The first step to using GENIUS is to login to your database account and click ADD/VIEW STUDENTS.  On this page you'll add the names of each student you wish to test.  When you're ready to test your student (whether at that moment or a month from now) simply select the words BEGIN TEST at the right of your student's row and GENIUS will ask you to pick the test you would like to take:

Addition Test Sums 0-9
Addition Test Sums 10-18
Subtraction Test Top Number 0-9
Subtraction Test Top Number 10-18
Multiplication Test Top Number 0-9
Multiplication Test Top Number 0-12

After selecting your Test, Genius will review test procedures and show several sample problems so the student can become familiar with the unique keypad used to select answers.  Upon starting the actual test,  GENIUS will test your student on just 5-10 math facts and then stop.  Testing in small groups like this is better than testing straight through 50 or 100 facts as it reduces stress and increases student effort.  After completing the small math fact test group (usually in 10-30 seconds), your student can rest for a moment and click START again to begin testing on the next group of 5-10 facts.  How well your student answered the 5-10 facts is displayed on the left of the screen during testing, thereby allowing teachers to walk around the room and monitor progress in real time. There are a total of 100 facts tested for Multiplication 0-9, 169 facts tested for Multiplication 0-12, and about 50 facts for each subtraction and addition test.  Instead of testing one student at a time from the database, GENIUS also has a STUDENT LOGIN page so you can test 5, 10 or 30 students at one time (such as in the computer lab).  You can also set up a GENIUS test station at the back of the class, sending students one at a time throughout the day to complete testing.

A BETTER WAY TO TEST THE FACTS
Students input answers for each math fact using a special calculator style keypad below the math fact. This is easier and more "motivational" than typing from the keyboard (although you can still type answers from the keyboard if you'd like) and more accurate than multiple choice since "lucky guesses" are virtually eliminated. If students don't know a math fact, they are told to click the red "?" symbol in the keypad. If a math fact is not answered after 10 seconds, the fact is marked as "incorrect" and a pop-up appears telling the student we are moving to the next fact. To CLEAR numbers selected by mistake, students can click the blue "CL" button. For answers to be scored as CORRECT, the answer must not only be right, but must also be answered in under the number of seconds you specify (usually 4-5 seconds).

DETAILED SUMMARY REPORT
After your student completes the last math fact of the test, a professional Test Summary Report is displayed onscreen giving details of test results in a row by row and column format.  This report shows your student's exact answers and the time it took to answer each math fact.  While this quickly shows which facts need to be practiced, but how should the facts be practiced?

THREE DIFFERENT PRACTICE WORKSHEET DESIGNS
When the summary report is shown on the computer screen after testing, you'll also have the option to  PRINT a custom practice worksheet.  GENIUS takes the math facts that were either "wrong" or took "too-long" to answer and uses only these facts to make your custom practice worksheets.   How's that for efficiency!   We've designed 3 different practice worksheets to enable students to progress through a sequence of  special memorization techniques that really get the job done when it comes to achieving total math fact mastery.  Worksheet activities include dot tracing of numbers - picking the correct answer from two choices - identifying facts showing wrong answers and re-writing these facts correctly.  As you can see, the variety of activities on a worksheet help keep the activity interesting an challenging.  Worksheet #1 practices one math fact per row, Worksheet #2 practices two math facts per row while Worksheet #3 practices four math facts per row.

ONE-WEEK ROAD TO MATH FACT MEMORIZATION
Follow the daily steps below and watch your student(s) master (memorize) eight math facts in one week.  This could be done at a faster pace, but we suggest a slow and steady approach to increase efficiency.  Watch Genius maximize the brain's memorization ability through these powerful and unique strategies.  Repeat this weekly process for one to two months and watch your classroom transform into true Math Fact Geniuses - with the end result being dramatically improved test scores and accelerated math learning ability!
Here's what we'd like for you to do:

FRIDAY TEST:  On Friday, we ask that you test all your students in the morning on just one test.  Sometime during the rest of the day (or over the weekend), go back to your GENIUS database account and PRINT two copies of WORKSHEET #1 for each student - two copies of WORKSHEET #2 for each student and two copies of WORKSHEET #3 for each student.

MONDAY:  Worksheet #1
Sometime during the day, pass out the first four pages of Worksheet #1 to each student.  Worksheet #1 practices 2 math facts per page so four pages equals 8 math facts.  Our goal here is to introduce and practice only eight math facts on Monday.  Have the student complete the assignment at their desk.  It usually takes about 15-20 minutes.  At the end of the day, pass out the other copy of the first four pages of Worksheet #1 for homework.

TUESDAY: Worksheet #2
Sometime on Tuesday, pass out the first two pages of Worksheet #2.  Worksheet #2 practices 4 math facts per page so we need two pages to continue reviewing the same 8 facts we practiced on Monday.  At the end of the day, pass out the other copy page one and two of Worksheet #2 for homework.

WEDNESDAY: Worksheet #3
Sometime on Wednesday, pass out the first page of Worksheet #3.  Worksheet #3 practices 8 math facts per page so we only need one page to continue reviewing the same 8 facts we covered on Monday and Tuesday.  At the end of the day, pass out the other copy of page one of Worksheet #3 for homework.

THURSDAY: Retest
To view the progress, re-test your students again on the same test they took the previous Friday.  Look at the results and use this to determine if the student should advance to the next set of 8 facts or if they should repeat the 3 day Worksheet practice again.

FRIDAY: Weekend Homework
On Friday, keep the homework lite.  Pass out the first page of Worksheet #3 again for review for a lite weekend homework assignment.  On Monday, after determining which students to advance and which to repeat, pass out Worksheet #1 again and follow the same daily steps again.

STEP 1 ... Take the Genius math facts test.  Only 3-5 minutes.  Motivational design.
STEP 2 ... PRINT the detailed summary report that appears at the end of the test for your records.
STEP 3 ...

Print the practice worksheets that Genius automatically makes covering only the math facts incorrectly answered on the test.  We now have 3 different practice worksheets you can use.  Give Worksheet #1 on day 1, Worksheet #2 and day 2, and Worksheet #3 on day 3.  On day 4 retest your student on the observe the stunning improvements in math fact memorization!

Sample Genius Multiplication Facts Worksheet #2 Layout

1. Worksheets are automatically made after testing using only the math facts "not passed" on the test. (Pretty neat huh?)
2. While we now have three different practice worksheets, Worksheet #2 below practices two math facts per row over three rows.
(Worksheet #1 practices one math fact per row and Worksheet #3 practices 4 math facts per row).
3. Although each row becomes a little more difficult to enhance memorization, the Genius worksheet design prevents frustration and failure.
4. Dotted numbers are used for tracing to stimulate visual memory which results in enhanced concentration and memorization efficiency.
5.

The sample page below shows to top half of Worksheet #2.  If your student had 4 or more errors on the GENIUS test, the next 3 rows would practice the next two math facts in the same pattern, etc.  When combining all worksheets together, these challenging strategies do an amazing job at locking this information into the permanent, long-term memory.
